For information about Las Cruces and its surrounding area, visit the Las Cruces Convention & Visitors Bureau. Notable events in the area include Mexican fiesta/festivals, wine and music festivals, a Renaissance fair, and the twice-weekly local Farmers’ and Crafts market. Las Cruces has many excellent restaurants and the main shopping area in Las Cruces is the area near the Mesilla Valley Mall, about 3KM north of campus.

Recreational opportunities in Las Cruces are excellent, with many public parks and other facilities for outdoor and indoor sports. Residents enjoy year-round hiking in the nearby Organ Mountains (2700+ meters), which create a stunning backdrop to the city of Las Cruces, and views of the Rio Grande Valley (on the west side) and the White Sands National Monument (to the east). Local museums and a public library add to the free time possibilities. There are 3 movie theaters (26 screens in total) in the city in different locations, and films are also shown on campus in the Corbett Center Student Union.

Las Cruces has excellent educational and medical facilities, with several elementary, middle, and high schools and two major hospitals located near our campus. Campus Life

Every year NMSU celebrates its multicultural population by hosting events such as the International Festival. A wide variety of student organizations, including a number of international country and cultural groups, allow students to pursue different activities.

There are recreational facilities on-campus, for example the Student Activity Center and Natatorium (swimming center), and many students use them regularly. The activity center offers a number of fitness and lifestyle classes that are free to students.

There are many other types of services on-campus to serve students. View Current Students to see an index. For students with children, there is also an on-campus childcare facility and other off-campus facilities nearby.
