Financial Requirements for I-20

 

The following information indicates how much financial support a student must show for an academic year for ISSS to issue an I-20 according to:

  • Degree level (Graduate or Undergraduate)
  • Tuition & fees rate, which depends on:
    • Residency Coding
      • In-state coding (also known as "resident") is for those who:
        • (1) completed high school in New Mexico and is admitted to pursue an undergraduate degree the first regular semester after high school graduation; OR
        • (2) completed high school in New Mexico and has been living in New Mexico for 12 consecutive months before the start of the program (Note: additional documentation may be required. Please contact University Student Records for more information); OR
        • (3) are recipients of International Competitive Scholarship; OR
        • (4) are graduate students with an assistantship of 10 hours, or more, per week.
      • Out-of-state coding (also known as "non-resident") is for international students who did not meet the abovementioned "in-state" criteria.
    • Descubre Program
      • For qualified Mexican nationals on Las Cruces Main Campus only.
    • NMSU campus
      • DACC, Alamogordo, and Grants branch campuses do not have the same undergraduate tuition rates as the Las Cruces Main Campus
  • Dependents – if any (add $5,600 for spouse and add $3,600 for each child.)
