All international students must prove they can support themselves for one academic year. For this reason, proof of financial support is required in order to get an I-20. The amount shown in a financial support document may vary depending on certain factors such as:
- Tuition & fees rate, which depends on Residency Coding:
- In-state Tuition (also known as "resident") is for those who:
- (1) are recipients of the International Competitive Scholarship; OR
- (2) are graduate students with an assistantship of 10 hours, or more, per week.
- Out-of-state coding (also known as "non-resident") is for international students who did not meet the abovementioned "in-state" criteria.
- Descubre Tuition Rate: For qualified Mexican nationals attending Las Cruces Main Campus only. No application is required.
- In-state Tuition (also known as "resident") is for those who:
- Bringing dependents will also increase the amount that you need to show in a financial support document.
- Add $5,600 for spouse
- Add $3,600 for each child you will be bringing.
