Financial Requirements for I-20 Graduate Students

 

All international students must prove they can support themselves for one academic year. For this reason, proof of financial support is required in order to get an I-20. The amount shown in a financial support document may vary depending on certain factors such as:

  • Tuition & fees rate, which depends on Residency Coding:
    • In-state Tuition (also known as "resident") is for those who:
    • Out-of-state coding (also known as "non-resident") is for international students who did not meet the abovementioned "in-state" criteria.
    • Descubre Tuition Rate: For qualified Mexican nationals attending Las Cruces Main Campus only. No application is required.
  • Bringing dependents will also increase the amount that you need to show in a financial support document.
    • Add $5,600 for spouse
    • Add $3,600 for each child you will be bringing.
